Does anyone have any experience with maxillectomy surgery or any sugery performed at UPenn in Philadelphia?
My adopted english bull Natasha has a 2cm epulis outside of her upper gum and our local vet has recommended maxillectomy (removal of affected teeth and jaw) are removed. The opinion of the first dental veterinary surgeon was that 1/4 of her upper jaw would have to be removed to stop the growth of the epulis which has grown in-between her upper teeth. I have an appointment to talk to Dr. Reiter at UPenn on the first Wednesday of October.
Have any of you had surgery performed at UPenn in Philadelphia? If so, what comments do you have?
What are your experiences with maxillectomy? Blade or laser? Surgical complications? What jaw functionality did your dog have after recovery?
Wish I could help,
surely others will chime in. The week-ends are sometimes slow. In the meantime, if you do a search you may get some info.
Good luck to your sweet little girl.
Not me personally
But I know people that have taken their dogs to Penn and have been very happy with the care. They have 24 hour monitoring, too - if your dog has to overnight.
I went to Penn and knew a lot of vet students. It's a very good school.
