Why are you collecting him? The first thing I was always told is someone besides the owner that is with the dog everyday should do the collection. Maybe he is embarrassed... ;0)

Truthfuly....someday, when I want a pup I don't want to pay $4500. dollars to replace what I have now. I don't want to step into quicksand, is speaking of breeding OK on the forum? I know no discussion of litters, But yeah I go to the same Bulldog vets the "others guys" do, here in Indy and Buddy's being checked. The collections seem to add an interest and drive in him, like Bud is a different dog. Kinda like when a teenage boy discovers girls and stands up straght and is more alert and paying attention to everthing around him more. Also it is supposed to as a natural effect of the hormones mature the dog into a more powerful figure.

Most reputable breeders I know use a service like ICSB to collect and store. I don't know any reputable breeder selling puppies for $4,500, prices still average $2,500.

We first checked for live sperm, I have a Vet lined up to do some testing on him. [ Buddy] Bud's only 3 1/2. I read threads on testing, but I can't say I'm checked out on it. I was planning on depending on the vets tests and would be open to suggestions to just what is important to check for. This guy is the Bulldog vet here in INDY and if you follow college basketball you may know of his patient{s}. But anyway, I'm not show people. So it's not that. I also know harm can be done when you don't know what you are doing, so I planning on learning, and doing things the best I can. He's not been tested, but he's sound in his hips, and has good breathing. He has the best "I love the world Bulldog" traits .He's had his pallet examined as part of his exam, but not his windpipe or eyes.....to a stud dog standard anyway. It would be a waste to use or save sperm that did meet the standards to safeguard the pups health.
Why?

The stud dog is only 50% of the gene pool
So, even if you get all the health tests and your dog is completely healthy, you still have to find a bitch to breed.
