ACL Tear

My Juliette has been pulled from her upcoming shows and is having ACL knee surgury on Monday.  Has anyone had this? What should I expect?

Chester had TPLO surgery a couple of years ago...

and he's walking totally fine now.  We had an orthopedic vet do the surgery, our regular vet did them also and a little cheaper, but we opted to go with the expert.  His name was strangely enough, Dr Bone.  The biggest thing is the recovery period.  No excess movement for 8 weeks is what we did.  We got an exercise pen and made it very small, put a pillow in it for him.  The first couple of days we used a sling to help him walk out the door to pee and always on a leash so he couldn't run or take off in the yard.  Even when he seemed to be capable of more movement, he was kept quiet.  He walks without any limp at all now.  We try to keep him under control so he doesn't tear the other one, but so far so good.  Good luck with your girl, hope all goes well.

One of our bullies had the TTA surgery.

An orthopedic did her surgery.  Like Kathy said the biggest thing is the recovery period.  We also used a sling for the first week to avoid slipping, and kept her in her crate.  When she was out she was on a short leash to avoid sharp movements or jumping.  Once they start feeling better this can be difficult but is very important.  Pain did not seem to be an issue after the first few days and they will start walking on it fairly quickly.  Good luck with your girl.
