Question for those feeding Wellness Super 5 Mix Large Breed

TGIF...

For those of you on Wellness Super5Mix Large Breed (Gary? and I believe there are some others) I'm curious if you tried your dog on other Chicken formulas before going to Wellness. I've been doing some reading out there that a lot of dogs can't tolerate chicken. Tuffy isn't doing so great on the Canidae ALS Chicken and Rice formula (which apparently a lot of dogs have trouble with since they switched formulas) but I'm hoping that Tuffy doesn't have a chicken allergy because I got the free Smartpak samples from Wellness and I want to give this a go soon. I'm thinking it's probably not a chicken allergy because he also had soft poop on Fromm Salmon formula. Anyway, I was just curious to hear if you tried any other Chicken formulas prior to the Wellness Large Breed...

The customer service representative told me that the Simple Solu

isn't ideal for a growing pup and recommended their whitefish and sweet potato formula from their Core line to help with his sensitive tummy. But I did some reading and some people complain of loose stools on that formula..

I'm in the process of transitioning him to the Wellness Large Breed puppy formula now but the jury's still out...

Wellness Super 5 Mix Lamb

Not chicken I don't belive. They have a green bag that is lamb (among other things) My girl has been on it for over two years and we love it. We were on Royal Canin 24 when we first got her and keep her on it till she was two. When we switched her over her coat changed in like two weeks. We couldn't even believe the difference. The only down side is the Royal Canin did keep the gas issue at bay with the type of kibble and the need to chew it. I liked the difference in the coat enough to keep her on the Wellness. Hope this helps!

Thanks, Javier!

Natural Balance was next on my list of foods to potentially try and I've heard great things about Solid Gold. Any particular formula of Solid Gold that you used? I'll definitely keep that in mind if the Wellness Super5 Large Breed doesn't work but so far I'm seeing good results.

What I'm doing right now is SLOWLY transitioning him from Canidae to the Wellness Large Breed formula. I'm giving him half a cup mini meals with 50% Canidae and 50% Large Breed and I think these smaller portions combined with the Wellness is working. His poop was firm all day yesterday (that's the first time that's ever happened. It usually turns to mush by afternoon meal). WhenI tried cutting the straight Canidae into mini meals he still had soft pudding poop by miday! I think the smaller meals with Wellness mixed in, combined with no toppings (I cut out eggs, bully sticks and his salmon oil) is making a difference. I'm going to keep going very slowly here...and hope that things continue to go well.

What the percentage of protein in that solid gold?

just went out and got the simple solutions duck formula

Mine are on Blue buffalo basis, salmon, and the all have gotten terrible tear stains. Very red and angry. So I am going to try a different protein source, and I say that my Spike had fly biting seizures due to the protein in one of the other foods he was on, I think it was too high. I am trying to stay at 20- 21 %. The simple solutions comes in lamb, salmon, duck. My shar-pei love the blue buffalo basics, but I heard they have a recall, I have to look into this.

He is old enough

for adult food. Are you giving enough time with the food in his system to truly determine if the food is or isn't working for him.

My vet said you should try a food for 6 weeks unless you are having major problems. That it takes that long to effect the system.

I was considering Simple Solutions...

but it says it's for adult maintenance. Do you think it's okay to put a 5 month old pup on Simple Solutions? What formula are you using and how did you find out your dog had a chicken allergy..>?

Have you tried....

Solid Gold? My girl has a chicken allergy and so far the only two foods that seem to work without giving her soft poop and gas is NB Salmon and Sweet potato LID and Solid Gold.
