Question about growing puppies weight...

My kids are 11 days old now, and they weigh from 1 lb 3 oz to 1 lb 8 oz. Is that a normal weight for pups this old? What time frame am I looking at before they start opening there eyes and standing up? When will they be able to go to the bathroom by themselves and when can I let Boston in with them without worrying about her laying on them? Finally, their little nails are getting mean, do you guys dare do anything with them?

Thanks again for all the help!

Jeremy

Thank you...

I will get some pics up next week, 6 of the babies have there eyes open! They turn 2 weeks old tomorrow, and they gain at least an ounce per day. Can't wait to show you guys these beautiful little creatures! happy.gif

Our pups are currently 18 days today

all eyes and ears are open and most are up on their feet except for the biggest wee man. Our guys are approx 3lb each.

They have started toileting on their own and this is usually in full swing by 3 weeks I have found.

All puppies gain at different rates. As long as they are gaining they should be fine. I put newspaper on one side and their sleeping part on the other side. At 2 weeks old they would actually crawl to the newspaper to relieve themselves. Good luck on your puppies and can't wait to see pictures.

nails

I use baby nail clippers on mine babies. It is eaiser to trim them after they have eaten and they are tired. Still can be a pain in the rear..be careful not to cut to short..just a little nip, this is the part I do hate nails on puppies... Hang in there Dude!

growing puppies

Puppies should be gaining daily. The puppies I have had and have right now on the ground.. weigh usually at 11 days old between 2 lbs and 2 1/2 lbs. Their eyes should start opeing between day 12 and I have had some open on day 18. Usually that is when the ears open is on day 18, but I swear my bully's can hear me come into the room early on..They start to stand between days 15 and 20. Usually by 3 weeks they can stand a bit. I don't let Momma with them until they are at least 4 1/2 weeks or older. Really it depends on puppies. My puppies are 4 1/2 weeks and they are walking..talking....and eating a raw diet which they love. Momma feeds them maybe once a day..but goes to see them several times in the day. I think the teeth are hurting her as to why she isn't allowing them to nurse as much. I would let her be with them if she wanted to since these are some strong babies. Mine weigh over 5 lbs. They weighed 12oz up to 15oz at birth. By the first week they were weighing anywhere from 1lb up to 1 lb 8 oz. Momma's milk was very good and I was lucky enough to feed them every 3 or 4 hours and they still gained weight steadly. Post pictures if you can would love to see them.. good luck to you.. it is hard work and yet so joyful to watch them change. Of course I must worn you... the hard work only gets harder when Momma don't clean poop anymore..and they bully babies don't want to go to sleep right after they eat...they want to play or they want you to hold them and sing to them.... Enjoy! Sounds like Boston is a great Mom.

Re: growing puppies

They are gaining every day but they are not as big as you say they should be, I'm feeding them every 2.5 to 3 hours now. They seem very healthy, and I just noticed tonight the some of their eyes are starting to open. Do they sound okay to you?

Thanks for your help!
