Can anyone help us with the bulldog smell? Our bullie is 7 months old and just reeks at times. We have switched his food from Iams puppy to Royal Canin for bullies and that hasnt helped. He's bathed regularly & kept clean. We brush him every day, but we just cant seem to get rid of that doggie smell. Its like a fishy smell or bad saltwater. Ugh! We've even bought bottles of stuff called Pets Odor Free which you spray on food & is supposed to eliminate all doggie odors - waste of money! Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!
Re: a fishy ordor....
His stools are firm and solid. Sometimes I think its coming from his anal glands because when he was smaller ( and still does at times ) his urine would smell like this. We've had his anal glands done when he goes to the groomers but he can still smell like this like the very next day. Is that usual??

I'm thinking some kind of skin infection
maybe? Could be a deep skin infection, I'd get him checked by the vet. Hope you can figure it out....

Re: Royal Canin is not a very good food IMO...
We only switched him over to Royal Canin because our vet said it was good quality. My husband says that he smells like his food at times, which can be true, but he's been this way since we brought him home at 8 weeks. Some times the smell is stronger than other times but cant pinpoint a specific reason. His face is not red or moist, his ears are good and his tail pocket isnt that deep. The breeder we got him from told us we should bathe him in Selsun Blue Medicated shampoo??

I would get him on a grain free food such as Taste of the Wild brand (we use pacific stream) or Natural Balance. It's not natural for them to be stinky, so there is something going on. Does he have a deep tail pocket? Sometimes that can get smelly and infected. Also, are the wrinkles on his face red and moist? How are his ears? We bathe our guys once a week with a mild oatmeal shampoo.

Selsun Blue
We had tried many, many different shampoos for our Bullies, and noticed
very little difference between vet supplied or pet store brands.(Except Malesab for specific uses.. ie inter-digital cysts, etc) Upon advice of our Vet, we tried Selsun Blue and were extremely pleased! It has a nice smell and Spike's coat, which was coarse and had previously reminded me of a " pot bellied pig" is now soft!!! He is also considerably less smelly! Go figure! You can always try it and see. Good Luck.
