I would love to go to the Westminster dog show sometime
heard today that the bulldog finished 3rd in the non sporting group.
first place went to the french bulldog..
but think it would be cool to be up close and personal to all the beautiful dogs.
hope to get there someday to see them for myself.
ever been yourself??
I think it would be neat to go to the nationals as well.
I would love to see all the great bulldogs there as well..
I have been to both...
I've been to Nationals several times, Tennesee, Connecticut, Minnesota, Indiana, Texas, Pennsylvania and Florida. I think that's all of them. It's a wonderful, WONDERFUL time. Bulldoggers are the best!!! The dogs are gorgeous. Several years ago my Opal placed 4 in a class of 30. That was very exciting. 2 years ago Olivia placed 4th in Novice B obedience. Again exciting!! The seminars are great. The hosting clubs offer breakfast and dinner most days at no cost. The silent auction is always fun and I always visit the Gallery of Champions. I'll be going this year. It's in Kentucky.
I've been to Westminster KC dog show twice. During the day it's nothing like what you see at night. That large ring is broken up into about 10 rings and all the breeds are being shown simultaniously. People are packed around each of the rings. It's a mad house. The benching area is great to walk through. If you interested in a certain breed that's showing that day you can go to that benching area & talk with the breeders. They're stuck there all day so most will gladly talk with you. The vender area is great too. Many of the dog food companies are there and you can get tons of samples & coupons. They also have some very nice dog related items for sale too. I hope to go again next year.

no, there are a variety of classes
typically Monday is performance (obedience & rally) & sweepstakes, then the other days are regular shows which have all the classes 6-9, 10-12, 12-18, open, etc...for both dogs and bitches (I'm sure someone could expand on this as I am fairly new to conformation) I do believe one day's show is devoted to finished dogs (CH's) as well as the dogs who have won WD/WB (winners dog/winners bitch) during the week

like any show, I'd never try to ask questions or strike up a conversation with anyone who is showing, but all the spectators are bulldoggers too...so I usually just ask questions to who I'm sitting with at the time and I've always found everyone to be more than willing to answer them
Westminster is an ALL BREED SHOW
and benched...meaning that you have to stay in the facility with your dog for the whole day when you are showing, THERE IS EVERY BREED KNOWN TO MAN. .. there are literally THOUSANDS of people filing through to look at your dogs. So, there are way more people there than at the Nationals. THE NATIONALS are ONLY BULLDOGS...It is the grand daddy of all Bulldog shows!

I was at Westminster when I was about 9 years old...
my mother bred collies and my dad handled them for her and others. Since I was so young, I can only remember being bored silly and wanting to be home with my playmates.

a couple of questions about these two shows..
I am trying to understand..all this...
the bulldogs that are shown at the nationals are not all champions yet right?
all the ones at Westminster are already champions...is my thinking correct on this..
seeing hundreds would be right up my alley..lol. could handle that many nice bulldogs for a week. the only problem I would have is how are spectators treated at these events...are they welcome to ask questions and such..things like that.
I have been to a few local dog shows up here. but the bulldogs were far and few between and it was over way to fast. they had maybe 6 dogs and then were done in no time. very fast.
I think the Nationals are sounding more tempting
congrats on Dixie again. how she ended up as a rescue is beyond me. someone missed a great bulldog with her.. glad that you got her though and helped her to reach her potential..
wow..both..how cool is that...
I bet it is really exciting show at these competitions.
I heard the nationals are great way to be meet other bulldoggers.
someday maybe I will get to one of them.
do you have some old pictures of the bulldogs that you showed..??
that would be neat to see
I think it would be cool to see all the neat things that are out there as well to purchase for bulldogs.
how busy are the two shows..
like as in the amount of people there
is Westminster more crowed then the nationals..??
Yes...I have been to both...
I have actually 'shown' at the Nationals and it is the thrill of a lifetime. I had a beautiful little white and brindle bitch, Gracie, in the mid 1990's @ Oklahoma City and we got down to the finals in the BEST OF BREED COMPETITION! I also had a Male, Harley, that I showed at the Nationals in Seattle in 1991 in BEST OF BREED.

Westminster is also a huge thrill and you should go if you ever get the chance. The Nationals are such a great way to meet the BULLDOGGERS. They are wonderful people..each and every one!
