Twister's Florida sleeping quarters....(-pics)

Since there are quite a few of you with new babies....I thought I'd share something I recently learned from dog trainer Susan Garrett about what she does when she brings home a new puppy.

Susan suggested crating the pup at bed level so it can see you, hear & smell you - which in turn helps to comfort the pup in it's new home...I had planned on crating Twister at night next to my side of the bed, but I would have never thought about putting his crate at bed level - I think (and hope) this will make a big difference to him

Kevin (hubby) was so sweet - he took measurements of our bed height and built our baby boy a new stand and even included a bottom shelf for all Twister's puppy needs (wet wipes, towel, etc...and Mom's too - my alarm clock and water glass fit there just fine)

All set up & ready to go! - just add puppy!! LOL

here is an insert from Susan Garett's training book which talks about this subject....

Sleeping arrangements

Confidence starts with security - When I get a new puppy, I put her in her crate on top of a chair beside my bed at night. This way she sleeps right near my face. She can hear me breathe and practically feel my breath. As we both fall asleep, I stick my fingers through the crate door for a few minutes. I have never had a puppy cry or fuss at night, plus I get to fall asleep looking at my beautiful new puppy!

and where does the "Diva Dixie" sleep you ask?....well, right behind her Mama's head on her own "king size pillow" So Twiser will not only get the benefit of being near his Mama, but also his big sister too! LOL

That's a great idea

I would never thought of that. It won't be long before you will have that baby in your arms.

Thanks - I thought it was a great idea too!

I was going to put his crate on the floor next to the bed, but I can certainly see where this would make a bigger impact for him...
