The indoor potty (synthetic grass) came a few days ago. I want to keep it in my new apartment in Boston in case Bubba really has to go and I am not home. I hate the thought of him having to hold it. I told him to go potty on it today and he looked at me like "are you crazy? go potty inside?" and walked out the dog door. My mom thinks I should lock the dog door and put it in front of the door but I feel bad. Anyone have experience training an adult/housebroken dog to use an indoor potty in an emergency?
Thanks.
You could try a pee post...
They also sell coyote urine here (as a deer deterent). I don't know if that might work to get him to pee.

Try peeing in a cup . . .
and then pour a small amount of your urine on the artificial grass (uh, not the whole cup). I've heard that when a certain anonymous ex-Marine bulldog owner pees his name in the snow that only comes once every ten years, his bulldogs will immediately walk over and pee over it.

how about putting it outside..
maybe catch some of his pee and put it on it. Got any friends with a female? He would probably go on it if you could get some female pee to put on it.

Put it outside and then bring it closer and closer to inside.
I never had any luck with Junior using a doggy litter box. He'd burst before he would go in the house. He will go on our deck up at Tahoe now, with or without grass on it. He also loves to go in the snow.
No but ...
when I took Layla with me to work last Saturday I brought along the grass indoor potty I had and she used it like a charm ! She even pooped on it ! I was impressed . She is a puppy though . I tried getting my older dogs to use it and they wouldnt , but I never REALLY tried hard at all .
