Re: Just a Thought about Clubs

Patti,
Thank you very much for your thoughts and ideas. There have been some people trying to get these things going within the Chicago Club, but they are always given the cold shoulder. The only thing the Club seems to care about is the Specialty Show in Noevember.
Even when it comes to rescue, they named me rescue chairperson, and I have not heard a word from them since. I cannot go to the meeetings like I would like to due to some health issues. But I do know that others have tried to change things there and have been trying for 10 years.
I will try to go to a couple of meetings and present our ideas. If the ideas are not acceptable to the club then we will just have our own group of folks who want to do something beside just show. We can have speakers and get obedience people without the Chicago Club if we have to.
Thanks again Patti. You do have some great ideas!!

I answered your email, Sue

Check your mail...

Atta girl Sue....let us know how it went

Sounds like you are moving a mountain there. Great.

I know you will get it done!!!

Sue

I will make it happen

Thank you for your story and your encouragement Sue. I know we can get this done. It is just going to take some determination on our part to make it happen. I can be really bulldog stubborn when I want to be.

Jane

You can make it happen!

I just joined the Long Island Bulldog Club in NY. They to seemed to have been mostly a confirmation club. During the 2nd meeting I attended, someone brought up the possibility of a Bully Fun Day with contests and maybe a picnic for all members, including pet bullies and non-members with or without bulldogs. They are going to advertise and possibly charge a small fee at the door to go to rescue.

Some people didn’t seem like they wanted to do this and some people sounded like they might be a little interested. So being the new kid on the block I spoke up and said I would help in what ever way I could. (I haven’t decided if Slickster is going to show or not).

Well we have our date for the first weekend in October and we are going to have different people demonstrating obedience, handling and have all kinds of fun contests.

I was told this wouldn’t have happened a few years ago but people are now saying they want to do things to include the members that do not show and just have bullies cause they love them.

Don’t give up hope. 1 person can make a difference and a few people can actually move a mountain!

Sue

Patti-

Sue and I have both offered to put together a Bullie Fest that is club affiliated since we have both worked on the Bullie Fests around here-there is just not much interest! But we keep trying-Each meeting I bring it up-and also bring up the point that most people that show started out as pet owners so don't discount all the pet owners!

Still hoping!

Give up? Me? Never!!!

Thanks for the encouragement Patti. I will not let this get me down. I have some plans in mind, and if they don't work, I have plan B. So all will come to a good ending.

ESP going on here

I sent you both an email before I even saw this post on the board. It was in response to the posts below.

Can't wait to hear your response Patti. I know what Jane's will be

P.S.

Of course, in trying to get others to support "fun" and other events, all the "non-show" people need to volunteer to help in one way or another for the yearly specialty. Everyone needs to work together and support all the club functions, though it might not be your favorite "bag".

Jane, don't give up

Again, as I said, I've seen this situation happen in many clubs.

But remember, there is power in numbers. Get 4 or 5 other "pet" new people to join. Get some of the existing non-show people to promise to come to a meeting. Make a motion to have such and such event. It has to come to a vote. You get your people there to vote. Of course, someone needs to come out and volunteer to organize/chair such an event.

I want to say on the other hand, it is very frustrating as an active member, when you can only do so much, when sometimes a person will suggest an idea, and you say, "that sounds great, would you like to be in charge of it"? Of course, then there are excuses. Well, my plate is pretty full. I myself cannot carry the entire load, no matter what a great idea something is.

So, it is a matter of getting "your people" together and attending, speaking up and offering ideas and the manpower to do it. They certainly can't deny you that. And, that might just change the tide of what goes on in the club.
