O/T: gross question about tiny insects found in bathroom

One of the bathrooms in my house has a very weird insect problem. I don't go into it very often. Two weeks ago, it was fine, looked completely normal. But then I went into it yesterday and was stunned to see about a hundred or so tiny, tiny little dead insects on the floor and in the whirlpool tub. They were spread out all over the floor instead of just being in one location. I didn't see a single one that looked alive.

These things are so small they are only half the size of this letter "e." I have never anything like this before and have no idea how they got into my bathroom. The two windows in the bathroom cannot even be opened.

Also, they are only on the white vinyl tile floor of the bathroom and in the white tub. They are not in the sinks or on the vanity, which is a mauve sort of color. And they are not on the carpet of the adjoining bedroom. And the problem is only in that one bathroom (I have 3 other bathrooms). I do have some food stored in the closet of that bathroom, including cat food in a bag, but when I looked in the closet, which has a carpeted floor, I didn't see any in there.

I have never seen a rat or a mouse in my house, so I don't think they got in that way. I keep the door to that bedroom gated off all the time. Thus, my dogs never get in there, tho my cat does (but he is an indoor cat).

Has anyone else ever had a problem like this?

Thanks.

They were there 2 weeks at the most because I last went into the

I have an idea of how they got in. They can fly, and because the weather has been so cool the past few weeks I have been leaving my back door open when I take the dogs out. I normally have a storm door too but my old one fell apart. I bot a new one but have been waiting for over a month for the installer to come put it up. So I think some flew in and then emigrated to the only bedroom on the first floor that has a carpet, which also happens to be the only room that rarely gets vacuumed since no persons go in there except around the holidays.

The articles I've read said every home has them and that it's impossible to keep them out. But usually they stay few in number because the carpet is vacuumed regularly. Just gotta make my Roomba start doing more work.

eeewwwww

gross. They look like they have fur. Very tiny but look how many. How long do you think they were there?

I have never heard of those. We have had carpet our entire lives in every house and never had them. Wonder what bring them in or where they come from? How'd they get on tile if they are carpet bugs.

Maybe a good steam cleaning of the carpets by Stanley Steemer or another pro cleaning place will kill any that are still alive and roaming.

Yep, as this link shows, that's exactly what they are

and the link you provided also shows a photo of one. From what I have been reading, they are in nearly all homes, just not to the extent I found in my bathroom. Funny thing, tho, is that I don't see any on my carpet, just on the white tile floor.

Thank goodness I put ceramic tile in my own bedroom last summer. I think I may put it in the entire house now.

Thanks a lot for the help. Now I got to figure out how to get rid of them. Thankfully they are only in that one bathroom. So far.

What the heck are they??

To me, they don't look like weevils or whatever they are called that get in flour, cornmeal, etc. You weren't kidding when you said there were a lot of them. Oh my!

Here are PHOTOS of the insects (not for the squeamish) . . .

They seem to have wings where a tail would be; the oddest thing is that every one of them is dead, I did see a single live one:

To give you an idea how many were on the floor, here is a pile I swept them into (every single tile square had many on it):

And here they are on the bottom of the jacuzzi; there weren't as many in the jacuzzi as on the bathroom floor, but there still were quite a few:

That's a great link

they definitely don't look like the first insect, but possibly the second. Gonna go take some pics with my macro lens, which is designed just for taking photos of tiny creatures.

The thing that shocked me the most is the number of them. My next door neighbor came take a look and he was stunned too. He also has never seen anything like them.

There are 3 bags of cat food in the bathroom's closet . . .

and one of them has a hole in it, near the top, that is about the size of a dime. One of my neighbors came over and looked. He has never seen anything like the insects, but he thinks I probably have a mouse in the wall. With a cat in the house, I'm very surprised there is a mouse, but there is no way my cat could get into that bathroom closet, whereas the mouse might have been able to slip under the door. Maybe the mouse carried in the bugs and they multiplied. I'm going to go take some photos with my macro lens and then post them.

Thanks.

I agree.

It could be weevils since you have cat food stored in that bathr

I think they come up through the drains.----

Are they kind of coiled up, teeny weeny, long bugs? I have some of those in the bath tub and the tile next to it in a downstairs bathroom that doesn't get much use. But, there's only a few; not bunches and bunches like what you experienced.

Gary, check this out

Gary, I got bugs like that from a huge bag of bird seed...

it sat for a while and next thing I knew it was crawling with little black bugs. As soon as they left the bag, they died and there were hundreds on the garage floor. Are you sure they're not in the cat food, they can be really hard to see.
