Sportsmanship

I just wanted to give you all a heads up about probably the worst case of UNsporstmanlike conduct that I've encountered at a dog show yesterday. I have witnesses that have told me that a couple of Bulldog owners/breeders sat ringside after Bulldog judging and chastised the judge for his decisions. Apparently, the judge was informed of these peoples' bitches' specialty win records etc. etc. and that my puppy bitch will be crippled by the time she reaches one year of age.

This is just not right and very inappropriate. So take note and the next time they harp on here about being great Bulldoggers and about practicing good sportsmanship, consider the source.

It happens everywhere

just take it with a grain of salt!

stories DO get twisted!!!

and I dont think stories like this should be posted on the forum without knowing the FACTS! Stories like these definitely get twisted, and if these kind of things aren't heard from by one's own ears, one just never knows what was really said, and what has gotten twisted and taken out of context.
I have heard certain stories of certain handlers but I dont post them because I dont know whether they are FACT or twisted stories.
Very Unprofessional!!!

Jay, congratulations

on your BIG win with your beautiful Bitch. You do a wonderful job of showing her! Try to revel in the limelight and cast off the idle chatter.

Unsportsmanlike conduct will always be there, try to relax and enjoy your Big win!

Sincerely,
Andrea and Ruby

happened down south

Several years back a very similar situation happened at a Georgia show. The owner of a special went up to the judge and told him off to his face-needless to say this individual made a total fool of themselves. I didn't hang around to see what the judge did, but was told later this person got their hand slapped(I guess events committee or something to that effect). We all like to win, and its hard to accept if we lose, especially to a specimen we deem unworthy but beauty is in the eye of the beholder and if all the judges liked the same thing then most dogs wouldn't finish. Each dog has his day and tomorrow is another dog show.

I am sorry to hear this..

however I hear it more than not. All I can say is no one ever talks about the losers. LOL Jay your dogs and your record speaks for itself. Whether we agree with or like any judges decision it is in fact their decision , I agree with Rod, get over it. I go into the ring truly believing my dog is the best if I did'nt I would'nt have entered if any given judge does'nt share my view I am okay with it. Guess what? I still go home with the best dog there. (smile) There is a written standard which is open for each persons interpetation of it. There are so many dynamics that go into the WINNER for that day, the competition that showed that day, who has what fault and to what degree, some faults may be forgivable to one judge that may not be forgivable to another. (Pet Peeves) Style, Ring Presence , Presentation, etc. I was told a long time ago, if we knew we were going to win every dog show we entered , what would be the point ? or the fun? And when you really think about it , it is 100% correct. Believe in yourself and your dogs and win or lose you will go home a winner !!
There is another saying that I think of when it comes to mud slinging of dogs and breeders and exhibitors all talk is just that talk, I believe things when I see them for myself.
Congrats on your wins Jay ! Never let them see you sweat !~

Re: Sportsmanship

humm people just feeding the rumour mill??? I'm sad to say I'm not surprized!!! I always tell my mom I'm stuck between pet person/ show person, and when mean things are said or made up on your beloved pet its very hurtful, now I'll tell you what she tells me " WHO CARESSSSS" you know what you have at the end of the lead so leave it at that. lol, o and toughen up or you won't make it are her words of wisdom to me!!! My first bred by ch got it.... someone over heard a NON bulldog person telling the judge he put up an oversized mammoth in the gr ring hahaha, he was 57 pounds and the judge set her straight. I think its extremly rude of people to even put a judge in this situation, and lacking in CLASS!!!! but we all know it takes all types. Congrats on your wins with your girl, and well deserved! people should watch what they say ringside, never know who's listening???

YES, Stories Are Twisted

Vicky,

Yes, for your information, the judge on Saturday asked me where Tate was after the judging was completed. Therefore, he DID NOT KNOW that Tate was retired and THUS I had NOT spoken or had any contact with him prior to that day's judging. I just went and showed my dogs.

Furthermore, IF the judge from yesterday was asked where to take a particular bred-by bitch to in the future, as was claimed and supposedly overheard, don't you think it would have been nice for him to have at least seen her in his ring and known what she looks like??? But you and others seem to forget that even though my bred-by won the day before, I DID NOT have the opportunity to show her yesterday because I was stuck in the French Bulldog ring. Remember?

So yes, stories are twisted sometimes to serve certain purposes.

stories get changed and twisted

i was not around after the show so i did not hear what was said.

Hearsay and fact are not always the same.

I heard about some other covnerstaions with the same judge as to who i should show by BBE too in the future.

Also the judge asking why a certain special was not in the ring with a certain person as they have been put up highly before. True?Fact?Fiction?

Not everyone agrees with judging, most of all the ones who walk out w/o the points or breed. The only real happy wons are the ones with the points.

Congrats to all the winners this weekend.

I'm happy that Roast just stood still.

Re: Sportsmanship

Even if you believe it to be true, what good will it do to bitch about it to a judge.. Most of the folks that complain afterwards are bad-sports. I sometimes will ask a judge what he didn't like about my dog after a show, but I never had the balls to complain about the decision made..The show is over, points were awarded, move on... Anymore I'm pretty numb to it all..You almost have to be, otherwise it won't be fun anymore. I agree Jay, it's very inappropriate, but it happens all the time. I don't see a solution. You can choose to ignore it or let it eat at you....

sorry jay that happened

but piss on them is what i say!
