Submitted by AmyandSophia on March 6, 2014 - 8:43amSophia enjoyed a little romp on the ranch. Unexpectedly! I was doing some work on our pump house pipes after a bad freeze, and looked up to see my little donkeys (5 of them) walking oddly in the corrals. They were in a line, walking very slowly with their heads down! Then there was Sophia, waltzing out of the corrals like she owned the place! How she got out of the house I don't know, but thankfully she made her way to the barn where I was working and the donkeys found her! That is the first time they haven't tried stomping a dog that got near them, but danged if I don't think they were just trying to figure out what that fat little thing was waddling through their space!
The trailer in the background is the temporary office for our construction company. We are building offices on that little piece of ground there, it is a corner of our ranch and will be our main offices for our business. We got tired of renting office space in town!

I love seing pics like this because it's so different from how I live. It must be so great to live on a big ranch with all open fields and plenty of land and animals. Im sure your Sophia must love it! :)

We have 175 acres that is partially treed, partially pastures. It is hilly, and our house sits on top of a hill, so we have a wonderful 360 degree view. Sophia loves escaping and going on nature hikes....which I never know about until I realize she isn't in the house and I panic, then run out to find her! She is always off doing something silly:-)

Donkey question
Are donkeys normally noisy? Neighbor across the road has a donkey. It is frequently braying--LOUDLY--at all times day or night. Even wee hours of night. I would think that he is lonely (both his horse companions died recently) but he has done this even when the horses were with him.

Well, to me that would highly unusual.
Not one of mine will bray unless one of the following occurs:
1. Food time!
2. They hear a siren, then all of them bray long and loud until it passes.
3. Someone is feeling frisky and thinks they are not gelded:-)
Other than that mine are very quiet. Oh, they might bray if there is a predator close, but generally they remain quiet even then.
