Sherman is doing good but..

He just had his cryotherapy done for his distichiasis. I'd rather not post pics. Poor buddy looks terrible. Although I will say that he isn't stopping his normal routine. Even with his new lamp shade outfit he is still trying to attack my boots. Lol. I left that out the other day because I didn't want any comments freaking me out about him being put under as I already knew the risks and the doctors at northstar know what they are doing (Rated best animal hospital in New Jersey again this year) and the doctor he sees has a lot of experience with bulldogs. So the update I want to add here is that the doctor who did the procedure said she was surprised and that she easily fit a size 5.5 trach tube without resistance and said that's actually pretty good considering he is only 4 months old. So that was a nice relief. She said she has seen way worse on full grown bulldogs. So for anyone that saw my post regarding hypoplastic trachea. She is basically saying that in regards to his trachea he is actually a lot better off than a lot that she sees. So that's awesome. Maybe it grew. Maybe the doc who took the x ray was wrong. Maybe the x ray was inaccurate.  Who knows. But I am very happy to hear that new. She basically said if she wanted to go a size up she probably could have.

Thanks man

Well see.. He's doing good been playing a lot today. Yea she was actually surprised because the regular vets had her thinking he was gonna be a very dangerous dog to operate on and she told me herself that it sounds like I may need to be very very careful with Sherman which sucked to hear. Then when it was over she told me.. "I used a 5.5 and I could have went larger if I wanted to because there was no resistance when putting in there. Thought you might like to know that.." I did.

Trach

Glad to hear she is not too concerned about the 5.5 at his age. I do hope it gets better as he grows, IMO that is still very small for our breed. We would much rather be a 7 or larger. As I mentioned in an earlier post xrays taken on a sick dog can be misleading as the inflammation can cause the xray to not be accurate.

Glad he is out, home and acting like a normal puppy.

ShermanK's picture

Yea

I actually said that to her.. "isn't the normal size like a 7 or so?" She said that was leaning toward optimistic with a bulldog and that she has seen full grown dogs way smaller than Sherman's quite a few times. So that's good to hear. I'm guessing since he's not even close to full grown he may have a chance at it though since she's basically saying he's probably like a 6 since she could have likely used a larger one. Unless tracheas don't grow with the rest of their body or something?..

Will do

His swelling is better today and you are starting to see those pretty eyes again. As long as it heals well he's gonna be even more handsome cause hell probly really open them up now. He already is kind of more "wide eyed"

Also..

When we were finally leaving after they brought him to me we were walking out and there was a 3 yr old bulldog there named Cooper in the waiting area who looked like Sherman when he grows up. Like very very much like Sherman. The lady was shocked too cause they had like almost identical color/markings. So Sherm had to try playing with him even though he looked like Rocky balboa. Didn't stop him. Lol. Also it was just nice to know that they really do see some bulldogs there. There was actually one there earlier in the day when I dropped him off too. Eases ur mind a bit I guess..

sean the best you can do as a

sean the best you can do as a bulldog owner is do your research, educate and inform yourself and obviously seek a vet who is experienced w/bullies...which you obviously have, there's no doubt that you have his best interest at heart...w/that being said glad everything worked out...give him time to heal properly and in due course,in the meantime spoil him like heck!!!lol
glad the lil man is recovering nicely!
extra smoochies to the scrunchy face and pls post pics soon!

ShermanK's picture

Well

I'm definitely trying and learning as I go. And of course the help all of you is appreciated greatly. And of course.. He's my best buddy I definately want the best for him. His swelling went down a bit more today. I'm guessing in like 2 more days hell look like Sherm again. But probably better cause he already seems like he wants to open up those eyes.. And will do..
