*SAD* story (NOT about my babies).....I REALLY want your opinions.....

Hi everybully----just another friendly warning----this is *SAD*  (not horrrrible or violent, but deals with euthanasia)

This has been bothering me almost 2 weeks now, and I REALLLLY wanna hear what other bully/ doggie/ ALL animal lovers think....

This was my FIRST experience ever seeing ANYthing relating to putting a pet down.....I was at the vet, waiting with Meaty, when I saw my first experience with a very sad human carrying his sweeet doggie in to

be put down.  The office was VERY busy  (aren't they all?) ......The staff there is always VERRRY nice---honest!  Here's what

bothers/ saddens me SO much.  The guy told one of the techs "she will need to be CARRIED, her hind legs don't work anymore".....

(no response, the girl was busy and distracted....phones ringing...ugh!)......Then she tells him "okayyy, so it'll be $68.00, and you don't

want cremation, is that correct?".....  I always thought these things were done QUIETLY so that perhaps the other people waiting

didn't get upset???  Not that I know anything....but yes, it DID upset me the way she was so business-like.....And then he goes to

pay her, and tells her "she was SUCH a good dog----we've had her 12 years".....the tech barely acknowledged him....

,,,,

....

Then the WORST part....this poor guy is kneeling next to this precious doggie, petting her, and ready to cry....(I was ready to go hug him and cry WITH him, AND pet his doggie.....but Meaty would've wanted to play with the sweet, sick doggie).....The time comes, and he says AGAIN..."SHE WILL NEED TO BE CARRIED".......(OBVIOUSLY he does not want to go into the room where she's going to be put down!!!!)  The tech says "oh, you can just carry her in and put her on the TABLE"........OMG, I think my jaw hit the FLOOR....he told her TWICE that the dog needed to be carried......how could she NOT get the hint???  (She's worked there for at least as long as Meaty's been alive (almost 6 years at least)....sooo, she iS experienced.  It KILLED me to watch this sad guy pick up his doggie and take her to the room when he CLEARLY didn't want to see that cold metal table, etc....

....

...

Then I almost cried when I saw him leave VERY quickly and speed off....I prayed for this poor guy and wished I could've hugged him.  Remember---I have NEVER seen anything related to this before---only what I've READ>....I also read that most (?)  some (?)  vet offices have a PRIVATE exit door for people to leave from after this, so they aren't embarrassed or uncomfy crying in front of everyone in the waiting area.... Thoughts?  Opinions?  And (((( HUGS )))) to all of you who've been through this----and I hope you were treated better.....!!!!  :-(

That is F'd up big time !

That tech should be fired. And I'm not gonna say what else should be done to them.

Having to put an animal down is like laying a person to rest, it should be done with dignity and private.

What should have happened is the tech should have talked to and comforted the man and asked him if he would like to leave by the rear entrance and someone should have stayed by his side every step of the way.

Just the opposite of what should happen

Unfortunately, we just had our own death experience with our rescued Pointer mix, Yadi.  He was not feeling well last Thursday - upset stomach, didn't eat, lethargy and panting -- he had exhibited these same symptoms before when his stomach bothered him.  We got up early Friday morning to check on him and he was breathing shallowly.  As we hurried to get ready to take him to the emergency vet, he had a seizure.  By the time we got him to the vet (less than 10 minutes), he was gone.

The vet techs (who had NEVER seen us before) were extremely kind and caring.  They took Yadi back so the vet could examine him and determine that he had been gone too long for CPR.  They both said that they could see he had been well loved and cared for.  They asked us if we wanted to see him and say goodbye, so we went back and had the chance to spend time with our boy.  He was lying on an examining table and one of the techs got a folded up blanket and lifted his head and put the blanket under him like a pillow.  It was such a loving gesture.  After we said goodbye, we came out and they talked to us about cremation and when we could expect to get back his ashes.  One tech got a container to show us how his ashes would come to us and she showed us the clay that they would use to get his pawprint for us.  She walked out with us to our car and hugged us.

I feel very sorry for the man you described and I actually feel sorry for the vet tech in your office because apparently she has no soul.  There is no excuse for behavior like that.

Very sad...

Some people are so heartless.  I have no other words to say because they would not be nice.  I feel for the guy.

This is sad

I've been in this situation with both of my parents dogs. It's so hard to bring a dog in knowing you aren't bringing them home. In my experience the dog was taken from us and then we were asked if we wanted to go in to say goodbye. We didn't have a separate exit and in fact now our vet only has one entrance/exit for the office when this day comes for Tucker. I think and don't get pissed at me for this but I bet working at the vets can be very stressful. I think you have to have a thick skin for days like this. I'm not saying they shouldn't be sensitive because they for sure should but maybe it helps this vet tech deal with sick animals? I don't know and it prob the sole reason I couldn't have that job(that and I suck at math). I've experienced medical professionals in the human field who have no bedside manner or sensitivity. I kind if see this as the same thing. I feel bad for the man.

Hey Archimedes mommy!

Would you feel comfortable mentioning it to the head vet that you saw this? I know you said it's not your place but maybe they need the feedback to improve.

That is disgusting and I would not have been able to be quiet.

I am so sorry for that man. I would have immediately spoken to a vet about it or the head office person. Then I would begin searching for another vet before it came time for one of my precious babies to go down.

Appreciate everybully's input....and yes, I AM thinking of

letting the vet know----he is VERY, VERY kind and I know he'd be APPALLED if he knew how that all went down.  He sits on the floor

with Meaty and Sophie and plays with them, gives 'em treats, always takes lots of time with us, etc.....I cannot even IMAGINE how

he'd react if he knew how that poor guy was treated....   :-(
