Do Bulldogs need playmate

I'm looking to get another puppy. I have a female that's turning one in week. Sometimes she gets lonely when we leave her alone during the week. But after work and weekends I spend a lot of time with her. How many people on her have at least 2 or more

I have two!

I started with one for over two years.  I really thought Otie needed a playmate and introduced him to a puppy.  They became good friends.  When I lost Otie, my other bulldog, Apollo, actually mourned right along with me.  Seven months later I had a chance to bring home a bulldog that her owner wanted to rehome (he didn't have time for her).  BINGO!  I love having two, as I know they keep each other company.  I also love the male-female dynamic.  It seems easier than when I had the two males.

We have two

Our rescue, Margie is 8-years old and our Quigley is a little more than a year. They (mostly) get along fine. They work together when begging.

No

Most dogs tolerate having a roommate, some even enjoy having a roommate but they don't need a roommate. Dogs that live with attentive owners do very well living without other dogs.

We have had as many as 7 dogs here at one time, 15 total over 20 years. With the exception of 2, all would have done just fine if they had been the only dog.

I agree with Lynn...

I love having 5 dogs...only one is a bully...but really, if they were singleton dogs in my home they would get more attention, more trips out, and I bet they would like that just fine:-)

Meaty got a sister when he was 2----they have been

So sweet together, and part of the reason we wanted a second baby was to keep Meaty company when we're gone.

The only thing that was hard for me was when Sophie was a puppy, she and Meaty would be PLAYING, but it  LOOKED

and SOUNDED soooo scary & horrible to me, I thought they'd kill eachother....the beauty is, there wasn't even a scratch---

people kept telling me "they are REALLY JUST playing!!!", and it was true!  :)  Other than that brief time, they are sooo

cute together!  Sophie is so motherly to Meaty----she grooms him by licking his ears, and he loves it !!!  :) ...

...

Just some friendly advice----NOT saying this is true ALL THE TIME----but I read a lot about it being better to

have male/ female because they usually get along better.  Well, we are new foster parents, and we've had 2 different

sweet bulldog girls here----and both have NOT gotten along with sweet Sophie---it's unfortunate!  These girls

get near eachother and a fight starts.....Sophie got a few cuts on her face before we learned to spray them with

water as soon as there's the slightest sign of aggression in either girl... I can also tell you that 90%  of the people

in my Rescue Group have said when they have 2 (or more!) girls together, they NEVER GET ALONG....and these

are people who've been rescuing bulldogs for YEARS....some are great at behavioral training, and have WAY

more patience & experience than I do, and many say they STILL cannot get their girls to get along----such a shame! :(
