Another dilemma

It seems like everytime I post on here I have a problem. I have Sherlock Holmes, and Dr. Watson. They turned a year old the 28th of August. For the post few months they have been getting into fights. I mean knock down drag out drawing blood. I have to seperate them, and put them in time out. I don't know what to do. Neither one of them are neutered, we have had them both since they were 8 weeks old, and they are brothers. I have thought about neutering them, since I am not going to breed them. Wanting to know if ya'll think that will work, and what else I can do.

Thanks!

Nutering them.

Probably a good idea. It will also protect them for certain cancers.

fighting

They should be neutered for many reasons but it will not guarantee that they will stop fighting. It make no difference that they are litter brothers. It is a personality thing. One always needs to be alpha and if the other is a strong personality too then fights will occur. Never, never, never leave these 2 dogs together if you are not home. You will come home to blood.

Neuter them

get the hormone issue out of the equation. If they have been fighting for a while, they have now learned the behavior, so it will take longer to modify it.

I strongly urge you to contact a trainer to help you. They will visit your home to evaluate the dogs, give you tips for modifying their behaviors and help you to understand the triggers and how to stop them.

Go to APDT website, there you can locate someone near you.

Good luck. For the time being, keep them separated, you don't want them to injure each other and you don't want them to get any more practice at fighting.
