My bulldog drinks his urine need help with behavior issue.

Hi maybe someone can help me my English Bulldog Han is 7 years old I took him from a friend who couldnt care for him no more however I believe he was abused I had him since he was 10 months.  He has had accidents in the house every now and then however now he drinks his urine.  I walk him 3 to 4 times a day and is given water about 3 times a day.  I don't know what to do anymore I took advice from a friend to buy a turf pad which is pretty big he peed on it for 2 days, but he is back at it again peeing and drinking his urine.  He has also gotten a bit aggressive when he is scolded he would growl at me or my wife and try to snap at us.  We have kids and I am concerned another issue is he is not nuetured my friend also said that could be why he is starting to get aggressive with me and my wife.  I don't wanna give up on him I love him just as i love my kids I just need to hear from other owners on what to do with my issue thanks in advance

A vet visit is definitely in order.

It is not normal that a dog of that age is having issues such as this. I would talk to my vet, ask what he/she suggests.

I agree, especially because...

this behavior is fairly recent and escalating.  He could have a medical problem that's causing it.

Thanks for the response

Thanks for the response however I took him to a Banfield vet by me and they stated that it could be a behavior issue and that i should get him neutured what do you think about that response from the vet should I neuture him and see if it helps ?

I hate to say this but...

Banfield vets are not a good choice for bulldogs, especially for any kind of surgery.  Most of us look for a vet that knows about bulldogs' peculiarities, and I probably spelled that wrong : )  They need very special procedures for surgery because of their smooshy faces.  There is a list of vets recommended by people on this forum on the home page, or tell us your approximate area and maybe someone can recommend a vet.  I seriously don't think a 7 year old changes that dramatically without some underlying medical cause.  That being said neutering is a good idea, but you need a vet that has done surgeries on bulldogs.  Let us know if you need help with finding one.

I totally agree with Kathy...

Banfield isn't known for their great vets! Find a local vet clinic with a Bulldog knowledgeable vet. If you don't find one on the list on the home page, please give us your location and someone may be able to head you in the right direction to a good vet:-)

My first thought is he's

My first thought is he's hiding the evidence because he doesn't want to be scolded. Also, he should be allowed to drink freely and it sounds as though that is not happening. Your bully needs to be on a regular schedule to go out and do his business...anything less than 4 times a day is not enough. Additionally, if he's not getting enough water, that could be the problem...drinking the urine because he's dehydrated.

If you are scolding because he's peeing in the house, then that has got to stop. Get him beutered and try modifying your behavior and you may discover that his behavior follows suit.  Give him access to as much water as he can drink.
