Clearing throat

Good Morning!

Just wondering, anyone have any experience with anything like this?

Chase seems to get congested in his throat with what I am thinking is mucus and sounds congested for several minutes at a time, Chase then seems to cough up whatever is going on and is fine for awhile. We brought Chase to two vets and both are stumped, his lungs sound crystal clear but the problem happens periodically.

Any experience with anything like this?

Could be allergies or...

elongated palate?  How old is he?

He is going on 9 months old.

He is going on 9 months old.

When we had him neutered at 6 months of age they checked his palate and said that it looked great. Hes the first bulldog I have had that never normally snores and his breathing seems good other then when he has the clog up issue.

That is a mystery...

if his palate checked out, I can't imagine what it is unless he just has allergies.  Hopefully someone will have some ideas for you.  If he has a lot of phlegm you can put a little lemon juice in his water or give him a sip of Sprite when he's congested, that usually helps cut the phlegm.  Some people squirt lemon juice in their mouths, but I just can't do that, it must taste awful to them.

Yes, Sophia does that when she eats the wrong thing.

She has some allergies that produce that same type of gag, cough type issue. She hacks out a little bit of white foam, and then she seems fine. It comes from licking her paws or legs, getting hair stuck in her throat, hacking that up. She gets like that if she eats even one fallen potato chip, she is very allergic to something in chips. She has that reaction if she licks the floor and gets dirt or debris in there. I give her a slice of plain bread torn into pieces with a Benedryl in it sometimes if it is allergy related, or just the slice of bread if it is from licking or whatever. That seems to move whatever is in her throat down.

Thanks Guys! I think I am

Thanks Guys!

I think I am going to try the lemon juice idea in his water. I had a long conversation about this with my vet again last night and she doesn't believe it has anything to do with allergies but she is also stumped.

I appreciate the help!

I make

lemon ice cubes for my guys... Or let them lick a lemon ice pop.. just a little...
