Vit D and Flank Alopecia (not sure I spelled that right)

I know there are some posts on here somewhere about this, but I am having trouble finding them. My girl has started to loose hair on her sides and back. I think it is seasonal alopecia. I had a suggestion to give Vit D supplement but unsure of the dose. Does any one know?

The ONLY thing I found that helped Julie with SFA was the Pet Sk

with EMu oil. Those that know of Julie's story and have seen her pictures can attest to the fact that she was very bald over her entire saddle area and nothing worked till I started using the Pet Skin Doctor Food Supplements and Skin Therapy. She is growing hair now and is even getting her brindle back!

Thanks everyone, we did go to the vet this morning,,,,

He did a scraping just to make sure it wasent demodex (I knew it wasent) He told me about the melatonin and also a new product he has had great success with. Mostly he has used it on dogs that have severe allergies. It is called Essential 6, made by dermoscent. You put it on topically and it is suppose to "restore the hydrolipidic fim and maintian optimal hydration of skin; helps deminishing irritations and hair-loss as well as sustaining hair growth" (right from the box) We will see. I'll let everyone know in a couple of weeks.

My girl had really bad flank alopecia.

I put her on 9 mg melatonin at first and it made her kinda sleepy. I cut her back to 6 mg w/ her eve. meal and she was fine. Her flanks filled in completely after about 2-3 mos. I'm going to give it to her from Sept.-Feb. It's the first time in 3 years that her hair is completely filled in. I've very happy.

Our vet recommended melatonin...

6 mg per day. The pills come in 3 mg so we give him one in the morning feeding and one in the afternoon. It hasn't done anything yet but he has only been on it one week. Hopefully with the longer days it clears up. Someone also recommended Calm Coat but I haven't tried that.

Melatonin is what I use, ask your vet for a dosage. I

use 3mg twice a day for Farley and Ida both are 52-54 pounds.

I've heard of giving Melatonin or...

fish oil or both, haven;t heard about Vit D though.
