swollen paws

My english Bulldogs front paws are swollen. I took him to the vet and switched his dog food. After the medicine the vet gave me was gone. I noticed his front paws swelling again. Anyone with any good information or similar problems. My next step is to have allergy tests ran. Looking for new info.....

I hava a all white (3 yr old bully ) and my vet

said it was ok to give him one bynadral in the am and pm! He gets pink in the face and paws. I clean his toes every other day. This made a HUGE differnce. If you keep them clean it helps.

No the vet has not yet. I am taking him to a new vet this weekend. I have been giving him extra dog treats. Silly me, didn,t even think. I'll definitly stop and try tator tots he will love them I'm sure. I plan to get with the vet very soon. I'll ask about Benedryl and research as well. I am suprised he is not itchy but his face and areas like you say with little fur are red and between his paws are swollen. Thanks for the advice I'll try everything and let you know how it works.

Yep, sounds like typical skin reaction from dog with allergies.

Has your vet suggested some antihistamine medication for this dog during the Spring, when everything is blooming. That, together with a controlled diet, would seem to be the cautious way to begin. Dogs that have skin allergies often have redness around the face and areas where the fur is naturally thin, also on the underside and between the toes, as you're noticing. I'd ask about using Benedryl or perhaps something a bit stronger that's available at the drug store for this 8mo old. He should be at or about 50 pounds so he could get 'an adult dog's dose' of the Benedryl, which would is conservatively one 25mg tablet every 8 hours, but if it were my dog, I'd start with one in the morning and one in the evening and see if that helps. Most dogs with skin allergies are itchy...is your bully itchy?

Also with food allergies, its important to not give snacks that are 'off-diet' so be sure you aren't giving things that contain chicken or beef...try to stay with the potato and duck ingredients only. I've given oven-toasted TaterTots to a dog with allergies, as a treat, and she loved 'em.

Re: Were the paw PADS swollen, or the area between the toes?

The vet gave him lavamlox it was for a foxtail in his hind leg which has been removed. He was eating Nutro lamb and rice for large breed puppies now he dines on Natural Balance duck and potato. Advise I took from the vet. He has just turned eight months and I was advised against testing him for allergies now by his former vet. His swelling cleared up and he was doing fine. After the medicine was gone the sweeling returned. The area that is swollen is between his toes. His front toes being the worst. Although his paws do not seem to bother him I worry I don't want him being uncomfortable. Any suggestions ....

Were the paw PADS swollen, or the area between the toes?

Can you be more descriptive on what this dog's problem is? And how old is this dog? Did the vet suggest possible allergy testing or was this your idea, not discussed with him yet?

What medicine did he give

you? What food was he on before and what food is he on now? Does he have any bald patches of hair? How old is he?
