My puppy has a hypoplastic trachea..need advice!

Hi everyone.. I just purchased a bulldog puppy about 1 month ago. When we got the puppy he had a bad runny nose. After going to 4 different vets we finaly found out that he has pneumonia as well as a hypoplastic trachea (size 3 to 4) as well as an enlongated soft pallet. The vet advised us to return the puppy to the breeder. I really wonder if we should return him, its very hard on us because we have definatly grown attached to him! He has no signes of bad breathing because he will play with our australlian shepard for hours and hours. I would just like some advise and maybe some future concerns that we might run into. Thanks!!

sorry you are going thru this with your puppy

and I hope everything turns out ok.

Wondering why you purchased from that place though. Am willing to bet all of their pups came from overseas. They are brokers not breeders.

I had no idea that he was a broker! Im wondering if i should also take legal actions!? I really dont want to return him because he is such an awsome pet. I wonder if he can just send us another one? I will definatly keep you posted on the situation and i really really appreciate all your replies! The medicine he is taking for his pneumonia is Suprax.

My Tessie...

My Tessie has a hypoplastic trachea ... I am wondering if the vet did xrays to prove this?

Here is Tessie's Trachea. You can see at right where her front leg bone is, is where her trachea narrows.

We have not had any problems with her breathing. She also has very tight snares.

Re: depending on the age of your pup, size 3 or 4 might not be b

I really do appreciate all your replies! It has definatly made me more comfortable about keeping him. The breeder hasnt called me back nor will pick up my calls right now but i want to get to the bottom of it with him. I definatly plan on keeping my puppy mac but i would want some sort of refund from the breeder. Heres a pic of our puppy..has anyone ever seen a blue and a brown eye on a bulldog?[linked image]

Re: Aaron, I'm sorry you're having problems with the puppy...

We went to a vet that specializes in bulldogs. Its just really strange because the more i search this forum it seems there have been a lot of puppies that have had a lot more issues. He never seems to have problems breathing! I just dont know if he will live healthy because of the small trachea. I know it should grow and the average size is 6-9 but i dont want him to have a lot of problems. I have talked to the breeder and he is going to run it by his vet before we make a decision. We are even considering getting another puppy because we are too attached to return him. Has anyone ever gone to beverlyhillspuppies? Thats where we have gotten him from and he is definatly nice and i understand that every puppy is going to be different. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Aaron, I'm sorry you're having problems with the puppy...

I can imagine how attached you are to him. Are you seeing a vet that specializes in bulldogs? Sometimes they can have a different take on problems characteristic of bulldogs. Also, have you contacted the breeder? Are they willing to help with medical expenses?
