How to determine a "Silent Heat"

What are the best guidelines used to determine if my bully is infacting experiencing a silent heat. It is the proper time and she is definately acting as if she is in heat, but how do i know this is what it is? I would like to gage when her next cycle would be and want to be sure that this is what is occurring. Thanks.

Re: How to determine a "Silent Heat"

This is not her first cycle, she is 3 1/2 and has always has regularly been in heat everys six months since she was six months old. She seems to be like she always is when she is in heat...minus the mess. I don't plan on breeding her, I just want to keep track of her cycles so I can tell when something is wrong or any changes with her. Just want to make sure everything is normal...i really hope this is a silent heat, if it is I think it is the greatest christmas present I will receive this year. lol.

Heather,

There really is no absolutely certain way to visually tell if she having a Silent Heat. Sometimes with a first heat you will see her vulva swell and some observe her nipples will swell somewhat.

One can determine whether she is in heat by measuring blood serum progesterone, but this would not be a common thing to do except under the narrowest of circumstances.... say an older VERY important bitch.
